API Equality, Northern California (APIE)

API Equality – Northern California was founded in 2004 in response to a 6,000-person rally against marriage equality organized by Chinese Christian leaders in the San Francisco Bay Area. Formerly a national ad hoc coalition of Asian & Pacific Islander (API) individuals and organizations committed to marriage equality, API Equality – Northern California is now a full-fledged multi-issue organization working to actively promote equity and justice in Northern California and in the state’s API and LGBTQ communities.

Folsom Street Events is proud to support API Equality-Northern California's work of building LGBTQ Asian and Pacific Islander power through leadership development and visibility and storytelling. Their core programs include a summer internship program for LGBTQ API emerging activists, a history-based organizing training series called the API Queer Justice Leadership Exchange, and the Dragon Fruit Project, an intergenerational oral history project that collects stories from LGBTQ API community members from the 60s to present.
