The GLBT Historical Society collects, preserves and interprets the history of GLBT people and the communities that support them. Founded in 1985, we are recognized internationally as a leader in the field of GLBT public history. The GLBT Historical Society is a registered 501(c)3 educational nonprofit organization.

If you sign up to volunteer at a Folsom event and select Supporting Beneficiary GLBT Historical Society as your beneficiary, please refer any questions to Volunteer Coordinator Leo at

Folsom Street Events is proud to support GLBT Historical Society updating their permanent museum exhibits and installing new permanent exhibits at the GLBT History Museum in the Castro. Funds will also be used to redecorate the front of the museum facing 18th Street.

In 2015, over 15,000 visitors viewed exhibits at the GLBT History Museum, with about 60% of these being out of town visitors, and many returning from previous visits. It is vitally important that our exhibits display the full diversity of our communities, both for the benefit of the LGBT community and for the general public.
