National AIDS Memorial Grove (NAMG)

The National AIDS Memorial Grove (NAMG), located in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, is a dedicated space in the national landscape where millions of Americans touched directly or indirectly by AIDS can gather to heal, hope, and remember.  Its mission is to provide, in perpetuity, a place of remembrance so that the lives of people who died from AIDS are not forgotten and the story is known by future generations.

If you sign up to volunteer at a Folsom event and select Major Beneficiary The Grove as your beneficiary, please refer any questions to Volunteer Coordinator Matt at

Folsom Street Events is honored to fund The Grove. The Grove is visited by thousands annually for quiet reflection, memorial services, community events, and tours that connect the fight against AIDS to other struggles for human rights in our past, present, and future. The Grove is used by dozens of schools and universities for youth civic engagement and leadership projects and alternative spring break programs. More than 1,600 people participate in Community Volunteer Workdays each year to maintain and enhance the site. A milestone of 154,600 volunteer hours was achieved in 2016. For 23 years, the Grove has produced the World AIDS Day National Observance, and since 2009, has awarded $140,000 in scholarships to 48 young leaders in the fight against AIDS. Looking ahead, the Grove’s AIDS oral history program, Surviving Voices, ensures that stories (and lessons) of the AIDS crisis will benefit future generations. We currently have 40 professionally-produced interviews of key individuals from San Francisco’s Leather and Hemophilia Communities, and our interactive (portable) storytelling booth has captured more than 100 others. This year we focus on women and the Asian Pacific Islander community. This program will empower marginalized communities for generations to come, and educate others to the destructive consequences of stigma and discrimination.
